At this time of year, there is very little, if any, ice that is safe to walk on. On Saturday, 2 Pugs walked out on to the ice, and 1 fell through. Pugs are not known for their stamina or their ability to swim. The Pug that fell through had to be rescued by the Warwick Fire Department, using an ice sled. Even the weight of the sled caused the ice to break. Small dogs tire easily when treading water and are very susceptible to hypothermia. Also, when responders are called to a scene to rescue a dog, they are not available for any other emergency situation. Please, don’t let your dogs run loose, and don’t think that ice is safe to walk on, either for yourself, or your pet.
