WinstonWith Easter right around the corner, we just wanted to remind you that it is NOT a good idea to give a baby bunny or chick as a gift. We know how hard it is to resist, but when thinking about a gift, think about giving a book, or even a trip to a local farm to pet bunnies and chicks.

Bunnies can be challenging to raise. Rabbits don’t enjoy be picked up, or pushed in carriages. Many cats and dogs’ predatory instincts can kick in when they see a bunny and disaster can ensue. Rabbits need special diets and housing. If they get sick, they need to be seen by a veterinarian that has experience with exotics. Remember that those cute, fuzzy chicks with the bows around their neck grow up to be chickens-in other words, LIVESTOCK. And what do you do with a chicken? Kids become bored easily and lose interest once they realize their “pets” can’t be played with. And you can’t give the chicken its freedom by releasing into the wild-it wouldn’t survive.

So please rethink the decision to give a chick or bunny as a gift. If you need further information, you can contact Sweet Baby Binks Rabbit Rescue. (see their link in our resources section.)
